In A Vase On Monday ~ Full Circle

It was a case of the vase choosing the flowers this week rather than the other way round when I put together my contribution for in 'A Vase On Monday'. Prompted by the realisation that it's March I set to do some overdue tidying up in the greenhouse prior to serious seed sowing. Amongst other things including a telephone adaptor (one of life's many mysteries) I unearthed a vase that I've been searching for on and off since the autumn. It was purchased at the tail end of the summer when we managed to coincide a trip to the caravan, with with one of the monthly art and craft fairs that are held on the prom at Grange-over-Sands during the season.

I should have perhaps taken a before and after photo. The vase is peppered with holes all the way round so the vase would make for an excellent centrepiece. The flowers therein are narcissus 'Tête - à - Tête', my current favourite narcissus 'Elka', some of the last iris reticuluta to flower (label inconsiderately missing from pot) and the odd flower or two of coming to an end of cyclamen coum. Whilst cutting the flowers I was delighted to discover a little clump of cyclamen seedlings which will be transferred at some point. I only realised afterwards that the photo didn't capture the cyclamen flowers which are hiding round the back.

With thanks as always to our charming hostess Cathy from 'Rambling In The Garden'. It's cold here but the sun is shining, so it's back to greenhouse tidying again before no doubt visiting some awesome vases later on today.

  3. What a clever vase! I love the dark blue of that Iris, which is a perfect complement to the Narcissus. Best wishes with the ongoing clean-up exercise and the seed sowing to follow.

  4. I love vases that do the arranging for you. Yellow and blue is such a lovely combination. Good luck with the seed sowing. Today I brought indoors a tray of broad beans that had been languishing outside in the cold and already I can see movement -exciting.

  5. Good luck with your greenhouse tidying - I really need to do a bit of that! Your flowers are lovely and that is such an unusual vase. How funny that you got it at Grange-over-Sands - that is a favourite family haunt from my childhood.

  6. So many spring vases today - this is lovely Anna. These 'flower stones' are so useful, although sometimes the blooms don't stand up in the holes the way you would like them;) Enjoy the rest of your greenhouse tidying - I could do with a bit of that!

  7. I don't remember ever seeing irises with daffodils in a vase before, and it really is a beautiful combination. Must be that blue and yellow thing again, that gets us all swooning! I hope you will use the vase again so we can get a better look at it, as it sounds intriguing with holes in the sides. No daffs out here yet... some buds have been visible for days now, but they are not in a hurry like me! ;-)

  9. I love yellows and blues together, a lovely spring vase and exciting about the cyclamen seedlings too, I found some in the garden here while tidying up, I've potted them up, some of the leaves have great silver markings! :)

  10. I've been thinking of a vase like that, Anna, it is frequently hard to get all the flowers to stand up just so. The daffodils look wonderful with the purple irises!

  13. Beautiful combination, yellow and blue is always a good bet. So true, I should tidy the greenhouse as well but didn't feel like it with the rain. From now on it'll be nice and sunny so I better get going. Have a good weekend, next vase is coming up!
